Shorganics Shenanigans

By Megan Vick

Vegan Shenanigans

You may not know this, but “Shenanigans” is one of my all-time favorite words. According to Google, Shenanigans means: “secret activity or maneuvering. silly or high-spirited behavior; mischief”

Thanks sounds exactly like what’s been going on at Shorganics. We definitely have some secret, and not-so-secret, stuff happening – and it’s all the shenanigans that have caused me to be delinquent in posting. Apologies, my dears.

You may have noticed we’re working on updating our website! This is very exciting and our new site is SOOOOO much more powerful and more awesome than our last site. Be sure you check it out as soon as it’s up!

The secret stuff is still secret – sorry. It’s the reason we’ve been so busy and so MIA in many respects. We can give you hints…

We hope you’re subscribed to the best vegan beauty box which is delivered to your door monthly!!

and the final hint:

Hint hint - coming soon!

That’s all for now! Namaste

Food Friday: Lavender Lemon Vegan Cheesecake

By Megan Vick

This recipe for Lavender Lemon Vegan Cheesecake by Emily von Euw featured One Green Planet looks and sounds delicious! I know what I’ll be doing with my Saturday night! I wonder how it will pair with my Lavender Lemon Lip Balm (shameless plug).

Ingredients:

Crust:

  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 1.5 cups nuts (soaked walnuts  and almonds)

Cheesecake:

  • 3 cups cashews (soaked 3-4 hours)
  • 3/4 cups lemon juice
  • 2/3 cups agave or maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1-3 tsp dried lavender (depending on how much you like lavender)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract OR seeds from 1/2 vanilla bean pod

Preparation:

Crust:

  1. Surround the inside of a cake pan with wax paper or plastic wrap
  2. Process dates and nuts together until you get a rough, sticky mixture that you can pat down with your hands into the bottom of the cake ban. Do so. Set in fridge.

Cheesecake:

  1. Blend all ingredients together until smooth and creamy
  2. Pour onto crust in cake pan and set in freezer or fridge until it has desired hardness (probably 3-5 hours or overnight)
  3. Take out of cake pan holding the wax paper or plastic wrap and put on your favorite plate
  4. Slice and enjoy

We cannot wait to try this cheesecake! Here’s Emily’s Rawsome Vegan Baking cookbook for you to check out too!

Treatment Tuesday!

By Megan Vick

Welcome to our new series of posts! Treatment Tuesday is designed to help you coordinate Shorganics products into your very own at-home spa treatment. With the cold winter weather getting worse, it’s important to take care of your skin and ensure it’s properly hydrated.  Using products made with organic ingredients help keep your skin pure and free of pesticide residue and other weird synthetic chemicals.

For your body care treatment, you’ll need the oh-so-gentle Lemon Salt Scrub and your choice of either vegan Body Lotion or organic, vegan Body Butter – for the winter, we recommend the Lavender Lemon Body Butter.

Glowing Body Treatment

  1. Hop into the shower (actually, step gingerly – no need to get hurt)
  2. Take a 2 fingers and scoop a bit of salt scrub onto your hand.
  3. Massage scrub all over your body – you’ll notice the salt begin to melt
  4. Repeat step 2 and 3 if you need more for your body 🙂
  5. Rinse scrub from your skin (feel free to sing a song while you do this – what’s life without whimsy)
  6. Turn off water (duh) and step out of the shower and pat dry your skin

It’s important you pat down your skin with a towel to dry it instead of rubbing it. By rubbing a towel over your skin, you can actually exacerbate dry and flaky skin. Patting allows your skin to absorb the moisture from the water and removing the excess.

Follow up your drying immediately with a vegan body lotion or vegan body butter of your choice. If you’re using the Lavender Lemon Body Butter, remember a little goes a long, long way.

Enjoy your glowing, rejuvenated skin! Namaste

Product Feature: Eucalyptus Tea Tree Soap

By Megan Vick

Eucalyptus Tea Tree is probably our favorite soap at Shorganics. It’s hard to pick just one favorite, but if I had to, it would be Eucalyptus Tea Tree. There is something undeniably fresh and tingly about this combination of essential oils that leaves your body and your mind refreshed and feeling clean. Both eucalyptus and tea tree oils were used by Australian military troops in World War II for treatment of minor wounds on the battlefield. Tea tree oil was so highly desired during this time, tea tree farmers and distillers were exempt from the draft!

Organic Vegan Soap Eucalyptus Tea Tree

The best part about this tingly soap, besides all the organic butters and plant oils, is how the oils don’t overpower you. Both eucalyptus and tea tree can be overpowering individually, but together, in this soap, the scent is pleasant, fresh, and invigorating. Try some today, or check out our 3 pack of soap or 5 pack of soap for an even better value!!

Namaste, y’all!

Product Feature: Cuticle Salve

By Megan Vick

Our cuticle salve started off as a personal mission for us because our cuticles were constantly cracked, dry, and causing painful hangnails. We wanted to make something small enough to fit in a pocket, but packed a big punch when applied. After many, many, many tweaks, our cuticle salve was born. It’s perfect for anyone who works a lot with their hands: artists, jewelry designers, wood crafters, sculptors, gardeners, farmers… you get the idea.

It’s creamier than other cuticle salves so you don’t have to work hard to apply it and it doesn’t leave your fingers feeling greasy. It also has Moroccan Argan oil which provides fantastic nourishment to your nails and cuticles. You’ll love how long a small jar lasts and at only $5.00, they’re perfect to give as gifts!

Product Feature Friday: Lavender Lemon Body Butter

By Megan Vick

As we head into the dry months of the year, you’ll certainly want to stock up on Lavender Lemon body butter. It’s super rich and made from pure, organic plant butters and oils. Even though it’s solid, it will melt on contact with your skin – just like real (or vegan) butter!

Our beautiful body butter contains no water, giving it a creamier and richer feel than traditional body lotions. It’s great for people who spend a lot of time in the sun and for those with ultra-dry skin. Many of our beach customers swear by our body butter because it helps keep those summer tans from looking too matte. And yes, gentlemen, if you are spending a lot of time outside, you can benefit from this body butter too. And I promise this: you won’t end up smelling like a girl (unless you really want to). It’s time for men, both indoorsy and outdoorsy, to keep their skin moisturized and hydrated.

Just remember, a little body butter goes a long way! Enjoy!
